Monmouthshire County Council has been awarded Disability Confident Leader status, the highest level of recognition available through the UK Government’s Disability Confident scheme.
The achievement reflects the council’s commitment to creating an inclusive workplace where disabled people and those with long-term health conditions are supported to thrive. It follows more than two years as a Disability Confident Employer and recognises the progress made across the organisation to remove barriers and promote equality of opportunity.
The Disability Confident scheme, led by the Department for Work and Pensions and supported by the Welsh Government, helps employers attract, recruit, retain and develop disabled people while creating more inclusive workplaces.
As a Disability Confident Leader, the council is committed to:
- Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion
- Supporting disabled people to reach their full potential
- Attracting and developing talent from a diverse workforce
- Improving understanding of disability in the workplace
- Breaking down barriers to employment and progression
Monmouthshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Equalities and Engagement, Cllr Angela Sandles, said: “I am delighted that we have achieved Disability Confident Leader status. This reflects the hard work and commitment of colleagues across the council to ensure disabled people have equitable opportunities to succeed and contribute.”
“While we are proud of this achievement, we recognise there is always more to do. This accreditation demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement and to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported and able to reach their full potential.”
Monmouthshire County Council continues to work towards building a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects and serves the communities of Monmouthshire.
