Our young carers service works throughout the county, in schools and community settings; and we provide our support all year round.

A young carer is under 18 and provides care to someone who has a disability or a long-term illness. The care they provide is deemed essential as it allows the person they care for to maintain a level of independence and wellbeing. The types of support that we can offer a young person will depend on whether they have been formally referred to us or whether they have met our team as part of our awareness raising school and community-based activities. It is important to note that to be entitled to all the support options below requires a formal referral and assessment into our service

Young Carers Action Day is an annual event that takes place in mid-March. The day is organised and led by Carers Trust (https://carers.org/), who encourage as many organisations, communities and individuals as possible to take part in the day by taking action, supporting and raising awareness of young carers. This year’s focus was on young carers having the same opportunities to learn, grow and thrive as their peers, with the right recognition, support and chances to reach their potential. On young carers action day this year, Monmouthshire young carers collaborated with ‘Creative Futures’, and used improvisation, lyric writing, drama and music to tell their story thorough creativity.

Young Carers (Impact and social value 2023 2024)

Nathan Meredith

Hi, I’m Nathan, I am the Young People and Communities Lead, and InFaCT,
the young carers service, and the counselling team sit in my area of
Monmouthshire services for young people. I continue to feel very
privileged to be part of these amazing teams and all our work with young
people. Music and the outdoors are those things that equally keep me
smiling

Julia Welch

Hi I’m Julia and I’ve been working with young carers in Monmouthshire for
the last 6 years. The best part of my job is providing activities and much
needed respite to the young carers. If you see us in your school come over
and say hi and we can tell you a bit more about the service and what we
can provide for you. A bit about me – I love live music and enjoy spending
my weekends getting outdoors especially on the beach

Arif Hussain

Hi I’m Arif Hussain and I’ve been working with young carers in Monmouthshire for the past 8 years. I have been a young carer and an adult carer for many years throughout my life, which is why I am so passionate about my job. I love to see the young carers being happy and develop through the support we provide whether it’s; respite activities, 1:1 support, group sessions or just needing some advice or guidance. I enjoy keeping fit, martial arts, socialising with friends/family, watching films, working on new ventures, learning new things and just helping people!
