On Monday 23rd March the Government announced a three week ban on all ceremonies, including weddings and civil partnerships, in response to the global pandemic crisis currently threatening our country. That three weeks takes us to Easter Monday, the 13th April. At this time we do not know whether the ban will be extended, lifted or changed to include restrictions on ceremonies into the future on that date.

As a result of the uncertainty we have made the decision not to make any new bookings at this time. I appreciate that this is very frustrating for our couples and our venues who would like to get provisional bookings made, however, there will be a significant number of couples impacted and we need to re-arrange fairly when the situation improves. Different couples will have different priorities so this process will take some time. We would ask you to please bear this in mind.

We have also been advised not to leave our homes apart from vital journeys. We have received advice from the General Register Office that we should not be offering birth or notice appointments at this time, in order to comply with the Government advice. It is now possible to apply for child benefit without registering the birth due to these circumstances.

In those appointments which must go ahead we are following Public Health Wales advice to socially distance and avoid all physical contact. Please respect our staff and comply with any requests made to you. We would ask that no children or persons in a high risk group attend our offices, and that attendance is kept to the minimum in any event.

We thank you for your cooperation during this frightening time, please stay safe and look after each-other. We look forward to getting back to normal and planning your special ceremonies with you again very soon. With very best wishes, Monmouthshire Registration Service.
