On behalf of Monmouthshire County Council, Capita is undertaking a study of Monnow Street. The study aims to explore providing a new Active Travel link along Monnow Street (B4293) in Monmouth town centre. Active Travel is a term used to describe walking and cycling to replace car travel for short journeys. The development of options for Monnow Street will be funded by the Welsh Government and the new route aims to deliver a key Active Travel commuter and community route to the retail establishments, places of employment and public transport facilities in the town and beyond.

A new route will seek to encourage visitors to visit the areas by cycling and walking more and at the same time, provide a safe and socially distanced space along Monnow Street to allow people to make essential trips in the safest possible way. This short questionnaire aims to seek your feedback on four options detailed below:

Option 1: Widen footways either side of a segregated cycleway and one-way carriageway from St John’s Street to St David’s Hospice Care (near Monnow Keep Exit) with 2.4m width parking provision either side.

Option 2: Widen footways either side of a segregated cycleway which starts from the British Heart Foundation store to opposite St David’s Hospice Care (near Monnow Keep Exit). This option will maintain two-way flow with 2.2m width parking provision either side.

Option 3: Improve the condition of footway and carriageway with no changes to the layout.

OPTION 4A: In addition to Option 1, provide an alternative cycleway and footway from Monnow Street through Chippenham Fields to Chippenhamgate Street.

OPTION 4B: In addition to Option 2, provide an alternative cycleway and footway from Monnow Street through Chippenham Fields to Chippenhamgate Street.

Thank you for taking the time to complete the questionnaire.

CLOSING DATE FOR RESPONSES IS 18TH DECEMBER 2020
