The Council has a legal and moral duty to meet the pitch needs of Gypsy & Travellers living in Monmouthshire. The Council recognises that safe, culturally appropriate accommodation is necessary for individuals to flourish in other parts of their lives.

The Council’s vision for meeting its duty and providing sites is:

  • To identify land in sustainable locations where Gypsy & Traveller households can establish homes
  • To provide small Gypsy and Traveller sites, ideally occupied by only one family or household
  • For each site to be a maximum of six pitches and to be well designed and landscaped
  • To provide places for families who are already living and well-integrated in local life in Monmouthshire and have an identified need
  • A small amount of land has been proposed to be allocated from each of the three potential sites
