Rebecca Way

Art Tutor

I have been an adult education teacher of art since 1995. I took my degree in Cardiff in Art and Aesthetics (Art Education), then completed my first PGCE in Further Education at Caerleon University, and my second PGCE in Secondary at the University of West of England in 2012/13. I have taught in schools, colleges and adult education.
I have been professional artist, selling my work since 1987. I have exhibited paintings in solo and mixed shows, selling work locally and in Cardiff and Mid Wales. I have painted many commissions of animals. for which I have my own Facebook page REBECCA WAY ART and website; www.portrayedpets.co.uk.
I worked for several years from school in a gallery and art shop which inspired me to teach and was extremely helpful in my subject knowledge.
I teach from beginners to advanced courses and workshops all over Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Gloucestershire, Gwent, Herefordshire and Powys. I offer a variety of different classes covering different media, such as watercolour, Pen and watercolour, acrylic inks, pastels, gouache and mixed media courses. I am invited to demonstrate and conduct workshops for many art societies and clubs around the area. And also teach regularly at Chapel Cottage Studios in Llandewi Rhydderch, Near Abergavenny, where I have taught and exhibited for more than 10 years.
My style of teaching involves demonstrating the techniques I wish my students to achieve, as well as helping individually on a one to one basis. We also end if time allows with a critique to bring all the work together. I find this helps massively with students progression and confidence in the medium and as a result their creative journey. I love teaching, the diverse creative and technical skills that students develop never ceases to inspire me.

Course Content

This course will introduce students to a range of different pen and ink mark making techniques, using brushes and pens. In addition watercolour painting techniques will be added as well as other mediums eg, salt, wax etc. Still life & landscape subjects, from photographs, are used in this process.
Demonstrations by the tutor help and encourage students to learn the new techniques involved. One to one teaching then follows this process and sometimes (time allowing) a relaxed gathering at the end or the start of the following session to motivate, develop and bring all the work together, I find this extremely effective.
