Motorists travelling on one of Monmouthshire major roads will benefit from the completion of a series of roadworks.

Monmouthshire County Council can confirm that work to resurface the A472 at Little Mill has been completed.

The works began on 16 July and were completed on Friday 7 August, allowing the closures to be lifted two days earlier than planned.

The scheme covered a length of road measuring more than two kilometres, and more than 1,640 tonnes of material was used in the resurfacing.

The strategic nature of the road, coupled with the residential section through Little Mill itself meant the works were phased in order to minimise the disruption to the community.

This resurfacing work was challenging due to the extreme heat the region has experienced over the last few weeks.

With the A472 resurfacing work complete, attention turned to Dixton Road.

These works were over approximately a 750m length and involved removing the surface layer and relaying more than 550 tonnes of fresh Tarmac.

The Dixton Road resurfacing was also completed on schedule with works finishing on Friday 14 August.

The council’s next resurfacing scheme will be Link Road, Monmouth, scheduled to start on 1 September and due to last 4-5 weeks.

The works will incorporate an innovative in-situ recycling process carried out by a specialist external contractor alongside the final resurfacing being completed by our in-house team.
