Following huge demand from communities across Wales, TrydaNi has launched a new electric car club in Abergavenny.

The TrydaNi Abergavenny car club launch took place earlier this month, supported by Monmouthshire County Council.

TrydaNi is a Community Benefit Society and has received funding support from the National Lottery and the Welsh Government.

The vehicle – a 2022 64kwH Kia e-Niro with a range of 250+ miles – is located at the EV charging points at Fairfield car park and already being booked out by users through the TrydaNi app.

It’s free to join and using a vehicle costs £2/hour (or £30/day) plus 16p per mile.

To join and start driving, visit trydani.org.

The launch of the club follows a successful bid by Greener Abergavenny, with support from Monmouthshire County Council, and they are now working in partnership with TrydaNi to help run it.

The new club has been set up in addition to ones already up and running in Bethesda, Machynlleth, Aberystwyth, Llanymddyfri, Llanidloes, Llandeilo, Penrhyncoch, Llansteffan, and Llandrindod.

TrydaNi’s aim is for car clubs to become self-managing through a network of committed members or ‘Community Champions’”.

Cllr Mary Ann Brocklesby, Leader of Monmouthshire County Council, said: “TrydaNi is working with Greener Abergavenny and Monmouthshire County Council to launch this car club.

“I believe it’s the way of the future where more and more citizens can have access to greener and fairer, cheaper travel, be it train buses or shared electrical vehicles.

“Together, we are contributing to a net zero future.”

Deputy Minister for Transport, Mark Hooper MS, said: “Car clubs like TrydaNi’s are a great example of how communities across Wales are finding smarter, greener ways to travel.

“By giving people affordable access to electric vehicles without the cost of ownership, they support our goals of reducing car dependency.”
