The contractor working on Monmouthshire County Council’s Wonastow Active Travel Scheme has accidentally damaged a shallow mains water pipe at the Wonastow mini roundabout in Monmouth. This incident occurred due to an unmapped shallow apparatus and is likely to cause additional disruption to the local community and the travelling public.
The damaged water mains were exposed when the contractor started excavating the carriageway as part of the new Active Travel route connecting Wonastow with Monmouth town. The work has stopped until MCC engineers can discuss the matter further with Welsh Water and find an alternative solution and design.
Monmouthshire County Council would like to apologise for the problems that residents may have experienced with the loss of water supply.
When available, further information will be shared with the residents and the wider community.
