Monmouthshire’s progressive approach to school meals has attracted the attention of a Welsh Government Minister.

Jeremy Miles MS, the Minister for Education and Welsh Language, visited Dewstow Primary School in Caldicot today (Thursday, 22nd February 2024).

He was shown around the school and spoke to pupils about their meals. Monmouthshire is proud to work with local suppliers to provide high-quality meals freshly cooked daily to all primary school pupils.

The Minister was also keen to find out what the council was doing to encourage the take up of free school meals. Universal free school meals are available for all pupils within primary schools in the county.

Monmouthshire County Council’s Leader, Cllr Mary Ann Brocklesby, said: “It was a privilege to show the Minister around Dewstow Primary School. We are very proud of our progress in ensuring all pupils can access the best school meals possible. We are part of the Welsh Veg in School project, which supports the local food supply chain, especially vegetables.”

The Minister also met the school Headteacher Liz Bain, School Governors, staff, local County Cllr Tony Easson and County Council officers.
