Monmouthshire County Council has partnered with PayByPhone, the global leader in mobile parking payments, to offer drivers the simplicity of cashless parking at 2,383 parking spaces across its 18 off-street car parks.  The new system will launch on Monday, 1st November, and no transaction fee will be charged for using it.

Monmouthshire’s Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Neighbourhood Services, Councillor Jane Pratt said: “We are delighted to offer residents and visitors to our beautiful county the safe, easy and simple option of cashless parking.  A number of Welsh councils launched PayByPhone recently, and we have seen how successful the implementation of the service has been for both the councils and end users.  PayByPhone offers drivers great flexibility, enabling them to start and to extend their parking sessions in a matter of seconds from the PayByPhone app.  This means there is no risk of handling cash and no need to worry about rushing back to cars to extend parking sessions if they want to stay longer than they had planned.”

To make parking even more user-friendly, PayByPhone introduced a Welsh version of its app in 2019 and refreshed all its signage across Wales to include bilingual options.  The PayByPhone app also includes a Maps feature that allows drivers to locate parking areas before they leave for their destination.  Drivers can pin their vehicle location onto the map once they have parked.  The Nearby Parking feature instantly provides drivers with the closest PayByPhone parking location number once parked.

When using phones to pay via contactless or via apps, it’s important to clean the device with alcohol-based wipes regularly.  Phones can pick up germs from surfaces on which they are placed, potentially then transferring them to hands or faces.
