Flying Start

Flying Start is a Welsh Government funded programme which aims to give children under the age of four in our most deprived communities a “flying start” in life.

The support offered includes: Intensive health visiting support from a dedicated Flying Start Health Visitor; Evidence based parenting support and programmes: High quality part-time childcare for 2 year olds in English and Welsh language settings; Early language development support and programmes including Language and Play, Chatty Chimps and Tot Talk sessions. Flying Start currently operates in North Abergavenny and Overmonnow and will soon be expanding into Caldicot and Chepstow.

Parents and children up to the age of 4 years living in social housing postcodes in identified areas of need are eligible for Flying Start.

Monmouthshire Acorn Project

This project aims to improve parenting skills and confidence in disadvantaged families. It is funded by Families First, a Welsh Government initiative which aims to reduce child poverty. The Acorn Project is based in North Abergavenny, Overmonnow, West End, and Thornwell. The project provides: parenting programmes , parenting support, learning support, mobile childcare provision and support to access services.  For more information on the services offered or to request a referral form contact The Acorn Project on 01873 735020 or email acorns@monfis.org.uk

Childcare Business Support

Business support and start up grants are available for new childcare providers. Each term we hold Childminder Briefing Sessions for prospective childminders.  Information about becoming a childminder and future dates of briefing sessions are available.
