Whatever the cause, the impact on communities that are directly affected can be far reaching.  Monmouthshire County Council is aware of the problems flooding can cause and tries to ensure that adequate arrangements are in place to receive flood warnings, to monitor local conditions and respond to requests for help from the community.

Flooding on the River Usk at Llanellen Bridge

The Environment Agency issues flood warnings to properties at risk of flooding from the Rivers Usk, Wye and Monnow.  Local Authorities, the Emergency Services, Utilities and local radio stations are also informed when flooding is expected.
