13:40- Update – Road Network Update across the County

We ask all residents travelling to comply with the road closures. Due to flooding, roads will be closed for everyone’s safety. Please do not attempt to drive through flooded areas.

This is an ever-changing picture, and we’ll update the list as soon as possible. Please keep checking for updates.

  • Abernant Rd R110 (between Llantrisant & Newbridge-on-Usk): OPEN
  • Road between R113 Usk and Llanllowell : OPEN
  • B4347 Mill Farm, Kentchurch (bridge unsafe to cross): CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. 
  • R42 into Dingestow (access off Mitchel Troy Road – under A40): OPEN
  • R9 Llanwenarth loop to Church is still underwater: OPEN
  • Thornbury Road, between Chainbridge to Bettws Newydd CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. 
  • R4 Bettws village CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

All other routes across the county are now open. Please drive carefully as you travel. Our operations teams are out throughout the county, clearing road debris.

19:00 – Update – Schools to reopen

All schools across Monmouthshire will reopen as normal tomorrow (November 26)


18:50 – Update – Storm Bert update media release issued

Following Storm Bert over the weekend, Monmouthshire County Council’s officers are working diligently across the county to address the aftermath of the flooding.

09:50 – Update

Following a weekend of widespread disruption caused by flooding as a result of Storm Bert, the road network across Monmouthshire is still being assessed.

The advice from Monmouthshire County Council at this time is to only travel if it is absolutely necessary.

If you do need to travel, please take extra care and ensure you adhere to any road closures and traffic measures which remain in place.

19:25 County Hall, Usk – 25 November Update

Due to significant flooding across the county today, Sunday, November 24, County Hall will remain closed tomorrow, Monday, November 25.

Updates will be provided when County Hall reopens.

Newport Bus is updating its website with service changes on Monday, 25 November 2024.

We understand that residents want to help clear waterways or culverts near their homes, but please do not enter them for your safety.

Our operations team are out and responding to all reports of flooding as quickly as possible.


MCC are aware of issues at these locations and are currently dealing with a large number of requests. Please do not attempt to travel through flood waters even if emergency road closures are not in place yet

Road closures are being put in place across the county in response to significant levels of flooding.

Our operations team are currently working across the county; please adhere to the closures in place for the safety of all involved.

Please only travel if it’s essential. Keeping the roads clear for emergency services is vital.
