Staff Development Officer (Children’s Services)

Are you excited by helping other people to learn? Do you want to be part of a service supporting the children’s service workforce to respond to the challenges of working in new and different ways? Do you want to develop your own skills in learning and development? If so, we have got just the job for you.

You will be passionate about the role of learning and development in providing the highest quality social care and early help to the children, young people and families of Monmouthshire. You will contribute to the work of the children’s learning and development service by supporting internal staff, and the wider external workforce, to access learning and development opportunities through a variety of means. This will include being effective and efficient in identifying learning needs, delivering a range of learning activities, commissioning learning activity and meeting more bespoke development requirements.

As a qualified Practice Assessor, you will also play a key role in supporting the development of social work students and preparing them for a future career in the sector.

You will have the ability to communicate and engage effectively at all levels, and be confident in building and maintaining positive working relationships with customers, colleagues and partner agency representatives. You will have a clear understanding of a customer-oriented culture and be proactive in promoting this. You will need to have a clear understanding and experience of organising and delivering training/learning activities or supporting project-based work in relation to learning and development activity. It will be an advantage to have some knowledge and understanding of the current issues in the children’s workforce in Wales. You will need to have good IT and administrative skills, be able to manage your own workload and respond to deadlines and competing agendas.

If this sounds like you, and you can bring energy, enthusiasm and a commitment to improving the lives of Monmouthshire children, we would love to hear from you.
