
Senior Practitioner
There is an exciting opportunity to join our well-established team due to the retirement of the
post holder.
The South East Wales Emergency Duty Team is a small team that provides an emergency
social work service out-of-hours to the five local authorities of Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly,
Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen.
We are an enthusiastic and dedicated team who strive to support adults, children and families
who are facing crisis out of hours. We work very closely with partner agency such as Health,
Housing and the police. The team responds to emergency situations that cannot wait until the
next working day. These can include for example, child and adult protection investigations,
Mental Health Act assessments and Appropriate Adults for children.
Caerphilly, as the lead authority, provides the service for the partner authorities from
a centrally located office base. We operate a 4-week rota working evenings,
weekends, and overnights with a duty manager available at all times for support.
The post includes a 20% temporary disturbance for working out of hours plus a
Market Supplement for Approved Mental Health Professionals only £2863.
We would welcome applications from Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHP)
and childcare social workers. For those candidates who are not AMHP’s a commitment
is required to undertake the AMHP qualification.
It is essential that applicants are in possession of the minimum qualifications of
Diploma/Degree in Social Work or equivalent and have at least 3 years post-qualifying
experience.

The current registration requirements state that completion of the Consolidation of
Practice qualification within your first 3 years of practice is mandatory (if you qualified
after 1st April 2016). Failure to successfully complete this qualification will result in
you being unable to renew your Social Work Registration or practice as a Social
Worker.
It is essential that applicants hold a full UK Category B (Cars) driving licence and the
use of a motor vehicle insured for business / work purposes to travel throughout the
borough to attend meetings.
