Promoting Local Democracy and Local Democracy Week

Local Democracy Week takes place every year in the second week of October.

The aim of the event is to engage young people in local politics and the electoral processes that facilitate democracy.

The events organised in Monmouthshire include the following workshops for secondary school children:

  • What does your Council Do?
  • Who would be your ideal Councillor?
  • Social media and the Council.

They also have the opportunity to ‘speed date’ Councillors and to take part in a mock election.
