COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is aimed at providing a brief taste of some of the concepts that are involved in counselling. Over 10 sessions the course will provide knowledge of counselling and the experience of using basic communication skills as well as encouraging a growth in self-awareness. Below are some of the areas that will be covered:
- The difference between counselling and the use of counselling skills in helping settings
- The qualities needed for counselling
- How to use basic communication skills
- Basic concepts of Person Centred Counselling
- Basic concepts of Psychodynamic Counselling
- Basic concepts of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- The importance of self-awareness
- An exploration of boundaries and prejudice
There will be course work each week which involves writing a Learning Journal of approximately 250 words. The journal should reflect what you have learned in the session and your personal response. This course is ideal for those who wish to progress further and enrol on the CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills.
