MEET THE TUTOR: Alma Rosa Munoz Alvarez

I am a Mexican living in Chepstow, Wales; for more than 3 years.

I love travelling to different places of the world and to know different cultures and people. I love cooking and in my practical classes I include some recipes to cook Mexican, Spanish and vegetarian food.As a traveller I know the importance of knowing another language and especially Spanish, which is actually the second most spoken language in the world.

I worked for more than 20 years as a manager, participating in conferences and training workshops. Also for more than 6 years I have been a University professor and for the last two years and a half I have been the Spanish Tutor for the County of Monmouthshire, Community Learning with groups of more than 9 students currently.

I have been a volunteer tutor for 2 years at the university of the third age, U3A in Chepstow

I’m giving private classes of Spanish for kid’s and some times I organize a Spanish Conversation clubs for different groups; also I have been working for the website First Tutors since 3 months ago.

I am an empathic person that besides using organized teaching with different learning techniques and resources, such as: short films, videos, games, reading comprehension, etc. I specialize in adapting to the different learning models of each student, as well as knowing what their specific needs are, their tastes and interests and their objectives in learning the language. Each session is designed to encourage the student to start speaking from the first day, practising all the techniques to improve their pronunciation, vocabulary, reading, writing and comprehension.

For me it is very important not only to teach the language but also the general knowledge of the Spanish-speaking cultures; such as: ideology, history, music, gastronomy, tourist sites, art, customs and city life. Each session is special and takes place in an entertaining, fun and trustful environment
