“A Connected Monmouthshire” sets out the local authority’s vision for a Monmouthshire where everyone has the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships regardless of age, status, circumstance or identity.
It seeks to articulate a vision of the kind of Monmouthshire we want to see, where community connections are increased and no one is excluded from participating in society for any reason.
This plan puts forward our belief that, whilst the local authority has an important role to play in creating the conditions for change to happen, everyone has a responsibility to help tackle loneliness and social isolation. We are committed to empowering communities to lead in this area.
Loneliness and Social Isolation is an issue that can affect anyone at any age or stage of their lives.
Feelings of loneliness have been shown to have wide-ranging consequences for those affected and have been shown to lead to depression across all ages.
There is also the potential for serious physical health implications which have been compared to those of obesity or smoking.
We want a Monmouthshire where individuals and communities are more connected and everyone has the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships regardless of age, status, circumstances or identity. We see the role of communities as vital in achieving this goal, and because communities are so central to tackling this problem, it is important that the people who live in them get to have their say.
“Young or old, loneliness doesn’t discriminate…
it is something many of us could easily help with.” – Jo Cox, MP
How to contribute…
As this is a draft plan we want to hear from you about what you think is important and what you think should be done to help tackle loneliness and social isolation. We want to hear a wide range of opinions and views from Monmouthshire’s diverse people directly.
Each and every one of us has a role to play in reducing social isolation, and your voice will help to shape the direction that the plan takes in informing local policy and partnership delivery.
