First of all, thank you for considering Monmouthshire as a location for your film or television production. It’s a beautiful county that offers a wide range of fantastic locations. Monmouthshire is nestled between the Wye Valley National Landscape in the east and Bannau Brychiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park in the west.

With sweeping rural landscapes and picturesque rivers, historic towns rich in period architecture and dramatic medieval castles, it’s a small county with a huge amount to offer. Plus, we are conveniently located not far from Bristol and Cardiff, with the M4, M5 and M50 close by.

Why Monmouthshire?

BBC X-Ray at Abergavenny Market January 2023Why not! You won’t be the first to make the most of the possibilities that Monmouthshire offers. Past productions have included Sex Education (Netflix), BBC One’s X-Ray (pictured in Abergavenny Market, Jan 2023), Sanditon (ITV),The Pact and The Way (BBC drama), Countryfile, Weatherman Walking and Hairy Bikers to name but a few. Plus Doctor Who have made extensive use of the towns, country houses, villages and countryside of Monmouthshire over the years.

Whatever your set/location needs or story, we have something for everyone. Take the Monmouthshire & Brecon canal for example, which offers quiet beauty and industrial heritage, the Georgian splendour of Monmouth (a perfect stand in for any market town), while Tintern is home to one of the most UK’s most iconic abbeys. Everywhere you look there’s beauty. Just follow the River Wye as it winds its way through the county, running through beautiful farmland, woodland and valleys and you’ll see what we mean.

Monmouthshire’s towns are vibrant and welcoming places. Bustling high streets have grown up around historic castles in many places, giving each a unique character. For more inspiration and a sneak preview have a look at Visit Monmouthshire.

A virtual visit: There are so many locations with potential – take this old courtroom for example, within Monmouth’s Shire Hall it still retains its period features.
