Monmouthshire County Council is pleased to confirm that the Llanthony Valley road will fully reopen on 22 May, marking the completion of recovery works after the significant landslip earlier this year.

Following the successful reopening in time for the Mountain Rescue Annual Race on 16 May—welcoming visitors back into the valley—the road is now ready for full public use, restoring a vital link for residents, businesses and visitors.

The landslip in February caused major disruption, impacting daily life, local businesses and access for families, farmers and school transport.

Thanks to a huge collective effort, work began just after Easter and has been completed in under six weeks.

This has been a true partnership between the local community, community council, Monmouthshire County Council and contractor Griffiths, whose commitment and pace of delivery have minimised disruption and reconnected the valley as quickly as possible.

Cllr Mary Ann Brocklesby, Leader of Monmouthshire County Council, said:
“The full reopening of this road is a really important moment for the Llanthony Valley. After months of disruption, it’s fantastic to see this vital route restored so quickly.

“This achievement reflects the strength of partnership working and the resilience of the local community. I’d like to thank residents for their patience, and our officers and partners for going above and beyond to deliver this at pace.”

Further minor works to demobilise the site will continue, but the road is now fully open.
