Monmouthshire has been recognised as one of the safest places in the UK for children to play outdoors, ranking second overall in a national comparison by Outdoor Toys.
The assessment, published as part of Outdoor Toys’ Safest Areas for Outdoor Play campaign, highlights local authority areas where children can enjoy outdoor play in environments which support their safety, wellbeing and development.
This recognition reflects the ongoing collaboration between Monmouthshire County Council, town councils, and other partners to create safe, welcoming and accessible outdoor spaces for children and families throughout the county.
Work is ongoing to upgrade playgrounds around the county which will add to the outdoor play provision in Monmouthshire.
We continue to work with town and community councils, schools and local organisations to improve play opportunities and ensure outdoor spaces meet the needs of children and young people. Recent projects have focused on inclusive design, making it easier for families to access green spaces close to home.
A Monmouthshire County Council spokesperson said: “We know how important safe outdoor play is to families, and this recognition underlines the value of long-term investment and partnership working. We remain dedicated to improving provisions and addressing any challenges that may require further enhancements.”
