Monmouthshire County Council has launched a new video highlighting the success of its late immersion provision and the growing opportunities available through Welsh-medium education.

Featuring pupils and staff, the video shows how children and young people receive targeted language support to build confidence, develop fluency and move into Welsh-medium education at different stages of their learning journey.

The video was produced in partnership with Monmouthshire’s Welsh-medium schools and Rhieni dros Addysg Gymraeg (RhAG), whose support and collaboration were instrumental in showcasing the benefits of the late immersion programme.

Welsh-medium education continues to grow across Monmouthshire, with primary schools serving communities in Caldicot, Abergavenny and Monmouth. Immersion units are currently available at Ysgol Gymraeg y Ffin in Caldicot and Ysgol Gymraeg y Fenni in Abergavenny.

The programme supports children joining Welsh-medium settings, broadens access to the Welsh-language curriculum and encourages more young people to continue their education through the medium of Welsh.

Leader of Monmouthshire County Council, Cllr Mary Ann Brocklesby, said: “Our late immersion provision gives learners the opportunity to develop their Welsh-language skills and move into Welsh-medium education with confidence.

“This new video showcases the positive experiences of learners and families, and we hope it encourages more people to explore Welsh-medium education.”

Through its Welsh in Education Strategic Plan, the council remains committed to expanding access to Welsh-medium education, supporting learners and contributing towards the ambitions of Cymraeg 2050.
