Ten projects across Monmouthshire are to receive a share of more than £7.5million in funding from the Welsh Government.

The Abergavenny/Llanfoist active travel bridge, renovation of Chainbridge and the B4245 at Undy are just some of the projects which will benefit.

The funding will be made available through the Regional Transport Fund and forms part of the Cardiff Capital Region’s Regional Transport Delivery Plan.

In Monmouthshire, this includes projects in both the north and south of the county, to improve public transport, highways, active and inclusive travel and road safety.

The Abergavenny/Llanfoist active travel bridge and links will receive £3.6million, while the renovation works being carried out at Chainbridge will benefit from £1.5million.

Elsewhere, work on road safety on the B4245 at the entrance to Undy village will receive £480,000 and £400,000 will go to a new bus/rail interchange in Chepstow.

Monmouthshire County Council will continue development work on the Monmouth Active Travel bridge, and the Severn Tunnel Junction footbridge to facilitate bids for construction funding.

These projects are just a few of many county-wide schemes to promote and facilitate easy transport links and road safety for all road users.

These are the schemes that Welsh Government will be funding through the Cardiff Capital Region.  The announcement confirms the funding for the year ahead and forms part of a five-year masterplan developed by the Cardiff Capital Region.

Further schemes will be developed over the period of the Regional Transport Delivery Plan and there will be other schemes for road and rail in Monmouthshire that Welsh Government will be funding through other forms of delivery, such as Transport for Wales.

“This funding sits alongside the additional budget that Monmouthshire County Council have allocated to roads maintenance, to help address the damage caused by the extreme weather we have had this winter.”
