Monmouthshire County Council would like to reiterate its thanks to the people and organisations who contributed to the consultation on its Deposit Replacement Local Development Plan in November and December 2024.

More than 4,000 representations were received.

The findings of the consultation will be presented to the council’s Place Scrutiny Committee on 25 September. This is not a decision-making meeting, it provides councillors with the opportunity to explore the findings and ensure that they present an accurate representation of the views of the public.

Cllr Paul Griffiths, Cabinet Deputy Leader for Planning and The Economy for said: “These proposals have been developed over several years working with local communities, businesses, house builders and landowners.

“The latest stage involved a six-week public consultation which allowed many issues to be raised by people throughout the county.

“I’m looking forward to the scrutiny committee considering these comments.  I’m confident that the plan will allow our county to develop in a sustainable manner, providing the homes, businesses and services we all need.”

As with all council committees, this will be open to the public to attend, as well as being live streamed on YouTube.

Members of the public can also register their interest to speak at a public open forum at the beginning of the meeting. This must be done at least three days before the meeting.

Further details on how to do this can be found at: www.monmouthshire.gov.uk/scrutiny-get-involved

The committee chair, Cllr Jane Lucas, is keen to ensure that as many people as possible are aware of this opportunity to attend the committee to hear the results of the consultations.

She stressed that while the consultation itself is closed, members of the public could use the public open forum to highlight any issues they would like the committee to explore regarding the consultation

Councillors will be asked to endorse the Deposit Replacement Local Development Plan on 23 October. It will then be submitted to the Welsh Government / Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW) for independent examination.
