Usk Community Hub will feature a Meet the Author event on Thursday 7th February.

Local writer Cath Barton will read from her recently published work “The Plankton Collector” at 10.30am, explaining how she came to write the book and answering questions about her writing.  Tea and coffee will be available as well as a book signing session.

The Plankton Collector, described as “haunting and atmospheric”, tells of a family flung apart from one another in grief.  They are visited in turn by the mysterious plankton collector who appears in different guises – to one he is a gardener, to another he’s an old friend.  This is a fable about loss, memory and, in the end, hope.

Cath Barton has lived in Abergavenny since 2005 and is now completing a collection of short stories inspired by Dutch artist Hieronymous Bosch as well as working on a novel set in Kathmandu following a major earthquake.

Monmouthshire’s cabinet member with responsibility for community hubs, Councillor Paul Jordan said: “We welcome all to Cath Barton’s talk which promises to be a fascinating occasion.  Our community hubs offer similar occasions throughout the year and they are all well worth attending.”
