Meanwhile, a generous gesture by a winner of Monmouthshire County Council’s most recent leisure promotion prize draw has benefited a local charity.

Robert Haines of Caldicot won a television when he joined Caldicot Leisure Centre last December and has donated it to Newport-based charity Sparkle.  Sparkle helps children and young people from Gwent with disability of developmental difficulties.

Manager of Caldicot Leisure Centre Helen Dymond said: “Our December promotion to join the leisure centre for a year with one month for free offered the chance to win a new 32 inch TV.  Lucky winner Mr Haines was presented with his prize just before Christmas and we have since heard that he and his family have decided to donate the TV to Sparkle.  This is a great gift for the charity and a lovely thing for the Haines family to do.”

Mr Haines added: “Sparkle is an excellent charity that carries out fantastic work.”
