Monmouthshire County Council is to hold briefing sessions for candidates and agents for the county council and town/community council elections in May 2017.  Sessions will be held at 6pm on Thursday, 26th January and Tuesday 31st January in County Hall, Usk.

While voting procedures have changed little since the last council elections in 2012 there have been significant shifts in the registration process and these are likely to have a significant impact on campaigning.

The sessions will provide campaigners with key information to enable them to plan effectively at an early stage.  They will cover:

  • the role of the Returning Officer
  • the role of a councillor
  • the election timetable
  • qualifications and disqualifications
  • the nomination process and election agents, and ability to collect nomination packs
  • registration
  • postal votes
  • polling day and the campaign
  • the count
  • election expenses

Anyone wishing to attend should book a place by emailing or telephoning 01633 644212 to confirm their attendance.
