Waste collections

We provide a fortnightly kerbside waste collection service to all domestic properties in Monmouthshire. You can view a calendar outlining dates for collection here. During bank holidays, the may be changes in Bank Holiday Collections.

Please remember bags need to be placed out by 7am on the morning of collection.

The council made the decision to move to fortnightly waste collections to encourage residents to recycle more by using the kerbside Red and Purple and Green and Blue Recycling Services collected from you on a weekly basis.  When using these recycling collections to the full potential the amount of waste leftover for your general waste collection should be significantly reduced, it therefore made sense for us to reduce the frequency of this collection service allowing us to use the savings on other recycling services.

Is there a limit to the amount of waste I can put out?

Any reasonable amount of waste placed out for this collection will be taken away as long as it is on your kerbside and not causing an obstruction.

I have large items to collect, what happens with those?

Large items, for example beds, furniture and white goods can be collected from your kerbside for a small charge as detailed below:-

  • Up to 3 items £12
  • 4 items £17
  • 5 items £24
  • 6 items £31
  • 7 items £41
  • 8 items £51
  • Half van £85
  • Full van £170

As from the 1st April 2012 Homemakers Community Recycling will provide this service on behalf of Monmouthshire County Council.  To arrange your collection and make payment for your bulk collection please contact Homemakers on 01873 857618.

Alternatively, Monmouthshire has four household waste recycling centres (tips/dumps) located in Caerwent, Llanfoist, Mitchel Troy and Usk.

The new household rubbish collection service

From the 1st July 2013 all household rubbish must be placed in the new grey bags provided by the Council.

A year’s supply of the grey bags will be distributed to householders throughout June along with a detailed information pack on how to reduce waste and recycle more.

Each household can put out a maximum of two bags of household rubbish (in the grey bags) per fortnight.  Rubbish in black bags will no longer be collected.

Sensitive waste can be wrapped before being placed in the grey bags.

A weekly nappy/adult hygiene waste collection is available on request.  You can register for this collection at www.monmouthshire.gov.uk or

Householders can continue to place ash waste out as an addition to the two grey bags (please ensure the ash is cold).

You can still take additional household rubbish to our four household waste recycling centres throughout Monmouthshire.

Red and purple bag recycling collections and food waste will remain the same.

You can place as many recycling bags out as necessary. Our aim is to encourage as much recycling as possible.  Bags can be collected from local outlets…..
