Town Visitor Signing Consultation

We are seeking your views on signs aimed at visitors within the main towns of the county. Cotyledon CIC has been commissioned by Monmouthshire County Council's tourism team to help deliver improvements to visitor related signage, one of five elements of activity which comprise the 'Welcome Monmouthshire' project funded through the Rural Development Plan for Wales.

It has been recognised that quality of the visitor experience is key in creating satisfied customers who become advocates of the area and recommend the destination to others. The aim of this work is to improve the sense of arrival and management of visitors in Monmouthshire through improved settlement-wide visitor signage.

During October and November 2011, the Cotyledon Team carried out an audit of visitor signage in Abergavenny, Monmouth, Chepstow and Caldicot.  In December 2011 and January 2012 audits of Caerwent, Magor, Raglan and Usk were added. The audit comprised a conditions survey of signs, a digital image of each sign for inclusion in the Council's public digital mapping system, 'My Monmouthshire' and a brief summary report of the overall feel and presentation of the towns.

The next step is to share these initial findings with people in each area who are more familiar with local issues. Cotyledon has been asked to develop proposals and specifications for works that may be needed from the audit and to align this work with the plans of any other groups or organisations.

Jan Walsh, Project Manager, Cotyledon CIC said 'it is understood much work is being carried out locally and we wish to complement this with the audit and not duplicate work that is already being undertaken. We are keen to include the wider community in helping to inform the work of the Tourism Team and would be grateful for your views'.
