The picnic site and car park is alongside the River Clydach and easily reached from the Heads of the Valleys Road (A465). The ironworks are some 300m away, across the river. The spectacular ironworks were built in the late 18th century and are a scheduled ancient monument.
Both picnic site and Ironworks are at the lower end of the wooded Clydach Gorge and within the Brecon Beacons National Park. They are also close to the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site.
Conservation works have recently been completed on the monument to cover exposed archaeology, increase access to the lower area and install new safety fencing. The works have been grant aided by Cadw and Welsh Assembly Government.
The site has direct access, and is signposted from, the A465 at Clydach South (Grid reference SO 230133).
The Clydach cycleway, part of the national cycleway network passes to the north of Clydach. Buses on the A465 stop at the Clydach junction. Contact traveline for more details, telephone 0871 200 22 33.
The Clydach Gorge Caravan Park is open between March and October.
