Monnow Vale
Which services are not available at Monnow Vale?
Everybody has a different idea of what they expect of a building that looks like a hospital. Is there an Accident and Emergency department? Are operations performed there? Are there wards? Is there always a doctor on site?
Whilst Monnow Vale has a Minor Injuries Unit, it is not an Accident and Emergency Department. It is only resourced to deal with minor injuries and illnesses which include things like minor cuts, grazes, burns, and sprains. For anything bigger, patients should go directly to A&E at Nevill Hall Hospital or the Royal Gwent.
Major surgery is not performed at Monnow Vale although some minor surgical procedures are carried out in the specialist clinics. The ward in Monnow Vale is for people recovering from surgery or illness who have generally been transferred from Nevill Hall or the Royal Gwent hospitals.
There is not always a doctor on site. Visiting consultants are at Monnow Vale at certain times for specialist clinics. The Minor Injuries Unit has the support of GPs in Monmouth and they can be contacted for advice during normal surgery hours. Monnow Vale cannot provide emergency medical treatment out-of-hours.
The Gwent Out-of-Hours GP Service can be contacted on 0845 600 1231.
Out of Hours Social Services are available on 0800 328 4432.
