What are Local Authorities in Wales doing about Climate Change?

Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Strategy

In 2006 we signed up to the Welsh commitment to address climate change. We set up a Climate Change and Energy Efficiency working group. The group was set up to make recommendations about Climate Change and Energy, via the Economy and Development Select Committee.

In February 2008, Cabinet agreed to adopt the Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Strategy, that we produced by working together with other organisations. The Strategy summarises the work done so far and sets out what needs to happen over the next 5 years from 2008-2013.

It is important that the objectives in the Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Strategy actually happen. Detailed action plans have been produced for each of the themes in the Strategy. This includes targets, timescales and responsibilities. You can see these action plans on the Environment Partnership Board pages of GreenWeb.

Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Strategy action plans

Action planning groups meet together quarterly to share information and discuss progress. Progress towards the Strategy's objectives will be reported twice a year to the Climate Change and Energy Efficiency Working Group. We also report progress annually to the Economy and Development Select Committee.
