Free access for Carers
For a limited time carers can apply for a number of free visits to Leisure Centres.
This offer is open to all unpaid carers who are looking after a relative or friend with a disability or illness, and who are registered with the Monmouthshire Carers Project.
If you are a carer and would like to swim, learn to swim, use the gym, attend a fitness class or access any of the other services offered by the leisure centre of your choice, now is the time to try!
Carers often find it difficult to look after their own health and take regular exercise. This new initiative will help carers access the wide range of leisure facilities across the County.
One of the barriers to accessing leisure facilities cited by carers is a need for someone to look after the person they usually care for so that they can go to the leisure centre. If this is the case with you just let us know and we may be able to help. This free trial is available until the end of March 2010 (subject to availability) and can be accessed by registering with the Monmouthshire Carers Project.
Monmouthshire Leisure Services have recently introduced a 25% discount on leisure passes for both adult and young carers, and this will still be available once the free trial period ends.
Carers will be able to use their discount at all 4 leisure centres across the County. Activities which are covered by the scheme include:
- ADVANCE fitness suites
- ADVANCE fitness classes
- Swimming sessions
- Use of the Health Suite and Sauna
Carers who use the facilities will benefit from:
- Fully qualified fitness staff
- Technogym fitness equipment
- Mywellness data capture and feedback information points
- Personalised Technogym key
- Tour of the facilities
- Induction to fitness suite and equipment
- Cardio-audio visual
- T.V. and music system
- Air conditioning
(Please note that although young carers can benefit from this offer, access to the fitness suite and classes depends on the age of the child and normal age restrictions apply to all activities).
