Local Access Forum
Introduction
The Monmouthshire Local Access Forum aims to make the countryside a more accessible place for the enjoyment of open air recreation. It is a statutory local access forum required by the Countryside and Rights of Way Act.
The Local Access Forum also:
- Responds to relevant consultations.
- Advises on the delivery of the Rights of Way Improvement Plan.
- Promotes ways to enjoy the countryside and fosters better understanding of the varying needs of the different types of users.
- Advises on the management and maintenance of access.
- Advises on balancing access provision against the needs of biodiversity, wildlife management and of landowners and land managers.
- Advises on developing new ways for everyone to enjoy the rights of way and access network, including those with disabilities.
The aim of the forum is to provide an independent view, rather than to reflect the views of a particular organisation. It is made up of countryside access users, land owners and other member of the public with an interest.
Members are appointed for a three year period. The forum meets at least twice a year.
