Usk residents bring Christmas spirit to Monmouthshire children

Published Thursday 22nd December 2011

Castle Inn landlady Sharon McAtee and her customers have pulled out all the stops to bring the Christmas spirit to Monmouthshire children.

Local residents and patrons came together to collect 12 sacks of toys and presents for looked-after children in the county.

Councillor Liz Hacket Pain visited the Castle Inn with council chairman Brian Hood and Vanessa Glenn, head of children’s services, to receive the presents from Miss McAtee and to thank her for her efforts in organising the collection of gifts. The gifts will now be distributed by social services staff.

Cllr Hacket Pain said:

"This is such a lovely gesture; a very big thank you to everyone who kindly donated. The response has been overwhelming and I am sure the children will be absolutely thrilled to receive their gifts. We’re really grateful for the hard work Sharon McAtee and all at the Castle Inn put in, as well as the generosity of the people of Usk”.
