Monmouthshire’s vehicles undergo successful inspections on the school run
Published Tuesday 20th December 2011
Monmouthshire County Council’s licensing section carried out some routine inspections recently and garnered positive results.
A joint operation was arranged between licensing, passenger transport and Gwent Police on Wednesday 14 December to inspect school transport vehicles. Drivers were breathalysed and vehicles were checked over for defects and to ensure they were licensed.
Samantha Winn, Senior Licensing Officer said:
“We inspected three vehicles licensed by Monmouthshire County Council; two minibuses and one car. No vehicular defects were recorded. One vehicle from Gloucestershire and another from Herefordshire were also given the all clear. All drivers were breathalysed and returned negative results”.
Furthermore, passenger transport inspected seven coaches. Again, no defects were recorded and all drivers provided negative results on the breathalyser.
Samantha continued:
“we look out for unlicensed drivers/vehicles on these inspections to ensure school children are being transported to and from school safely. Had any issues arisen this would have been a major problem - we’d have had to take vehicles off the road, affecting many children’s journeys and posing a problem in trying to arrange alternative licensed transport. Thankfully this wasn’t the case and we’re really pleased with the results of this inspection”.
