Elections
Electoral Services are responsible for the conduct of all elections and referenda held within the County of Monmouthshire. This includes:
- the administration of postal and proxy voting
- maintaining lists of service and overseas electors
- promoting participation in democracy and electoral boundary issues
County and Community Council Elections will be held on 3rd May 2012. Information about these elections is available.
A UK Parliamentary Election was held on 6th May 2010. Information about this election is available.
National Assembly for Wales Elections and a Referendum on the voting system used to elect MPs to the House of Commons was held on 5th May 2011. Information is available for the elections/referendum.
Casual vacancies in the office of Town/Community Councillor
If during the four year term of a Town/Community Council, a casual vacancy occurs due to resignation, disqualification etc a notice of vacancy is published. If electors from the area where the vacancy arises request it, an election takes place. The request must come from ten electors of the ward concerned. If the Returning Officer does not receive a request then the Town/Community Council may co-opt a replacement.
