Making payments
To make a payment to the council, use one of the options below:
Online payments
Council tax, business rates, council invoices, housing benefit overpayments and car parking fines can be paid using our online secure payment website. You will need the reference number from the bill or invoice you are paying.
For car parking fines you will need the 10 digit Penalty Charge Notice Number (PCNN). This reference starts MC and can be found either at the top of the notice or in the payment section on the notice.
Please note payments can be accepted by both debit card and credit card. There is no fee to use this facility.

By phone
Monmouthshire County Council operate an Automated Telephone Payment facility which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Ensure you have your reference details available.
Ensure you have your Debit or Credit Card details when using this facility.

By direct debit
This is the easiest and most cost effective way to settle your account. A direct debit request form is available to download or alternatively can be requested from the revenues section. This will enable you to instruct your bank to transfer the appropriate amounts.
Complete and return by post to the Revenues Section at the address shown on the form.
A choice of two instalment dates - 1st and 15th of each month - is offered.
This method of payment is also available for payment of Council Invoices. You can contact the recovery team (Tel. 01633 644350) to request a mandate form.
Please ensure you provide your name, address and or account reference number.
By cheque
Make cheques payable to "Monmouthshire County Council".
(Please note that post-dated cheques will not be accepted and will be returned).
Send to The Cash Office, Monmouthshire County Council, PO Box 149, Abergavenny NP7 1BJ.
Please include on the reverse of the cheque, the reference number from the bill or invoice being paid.
Please note receipts are not provided for cheque payments unless specifically requested.
By debit or credit card
You can pay using a debit or credit card
- online using our secure online payments site
- by phoning 01633 644316 (this is an automated service available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week)
- phone the Cash Office between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Thursday and 9am to 3.30pm Friday
