Following the signing in spring 2006 of the Welsh Commitment to Address Climate Change, an officer working group was established and subsequently the Economy and Development Select Committee set up a joint member and officer Climate Change and Energy Efficiency working group. This working group is tasked with making recommendations, via its Select Committee, to Cabinet on the implementation of the Strategy in the Authority and in the County as a whole. Councillor Phil Murphy has been nominated as ‘energy champion’ for the Authority.
This Strategy summarises the work done so far and sets an agenda for the next steps. It is designed to run from 5 years from 2008-2013 and sets strategic objectives in 4 Areas for Action: our own estate, community, housing and transport.

Priorities are set for 2008-2009 in each of the 4 Areas for action. Detailed Action Planning workshops took place in early 2008 for each of the 4 Areas for Action, involving relevant MCC officers, members and partners. These Action Plans include targets, timescales and detail who is responsible. Progress towards the Strategy’s objectives will be reported annually to the Economy and Development Select Committee.
