Preparation for Resistance Release gathers pace!

Based on the novel by Abergavenny born Owen Sheers, Resistance explores what would have happened if the Germans had invaded after a failed D-Day. Set and filmed in South Wales, around the Black Mountains, the film looks like it could be an Autumn hit with star power from the likes of Michael Sheen. It is due out on the 25th November, but if you can't wait until then here are some snippets to keep you tied over:

  • We caught with Owen in our 2011 visitor guide in which he shares his love for the magnificent Llanthony Abbey, in the equally fantastic Llanthony Valley (which both appear in the film). You can find this, and pictures of him leaning on various walls, on pages 4-6!
  • If you want to find out more about the film, you can simply pop down to Abergavenny Museum! Their ongoing exhibition, The British Resistance in Wales, tells the story of the undercover resistance movement, and their plans for if the Germans did invade. Husbands were forbidden to inform their wives, and fathers couldn't tell their children about their involvement so who knows, maybe your Grandpa Trevor or Great Uncle Dewi were prepared to head out and fight if the time came! It includes both exhibits from the period, and artwork and costumes from the film so whatever your interest; history, film or both; it is worth a visit!
  • Or sign up to one of the many walks at the Monmouthshire Walking Festival (22nd - 31st October), some of which explore the scenery you will be seeing on screen!

So, will you be watching the film when it's released? Or, even better, do you know if any of your family were in the planned 'British Resistance'?
