How do I report problems with highway drainage ?
Contact your One-Stop-Shop
What Information do I need to pass on ?
- Street name and area
- Location on street i.e. is it near a house number or a road junction
- Drainage component affected - gully, grip, channel, etc.
- Type and severity of the defect e.g. blocked gully
- Your name and contact number
- Whether you need to be kept informed or not
What happens next ?
Reports of drainage problems are investigated by our Highway Inspectors who will :
- visit the site
- determine whether the problem is the Authority's responsibility
- assess the severity of the problem
- decide upon an appropriate course of action
What happens if the problem is not the Council's responsibility ?
'Foul Drainage' and the sewerage system are not the responsibility of the Council. The Authority responsible for sewers and foul drainage are Dwr Cymru (Welsh Water) and they can be contacted on 0800 052 0130.
If our Highways Inspector determines that a problem is not the responsibility of the highways department, the Authority will either :
- contact the appropriate person or company and request them to rectify the problem
or
- if the owner cannot be easily identified and the problem is an emergency the Authority may carry out repairs and seek to recover costs retrospectively.
