Monmouthshire County Council's first Race Equality Scheme was published in May 2002.  It was made publicly available across the county and produced in alternative formats, in Welsh and in minority ethnic languages upon request. 

The second Scheme (2005 - 8) was published in May 2005.  As well as building upon the first Scheme, this Scheme is a planning document, and we recognise that we are still developing.  It is intended that our approach will continue to develop over time.  We know that we still have very little information about black and minority ethnic groups in Monmouthshire and it remains one of our goals to improve our links and knowledge

This document reports on the results of our employment monitoring , provides an update on developments around the promotion of race equality in the area and identifies key achievements and areas for improvement.  Although not a complete review of all Council services or functions, we hope this report provides an accurate picture of Monmouthshire County Council's work towards eliminating racial discrimination, promoting equality of opportunity and promoting good race relations.

We are currently in the process of producing our third Race Equality Scheme which we hope to publish in autumn 2008.
