Equality in Monmouthshire Group
The Equality in Monmouthshire Group, chaired by the Leader of the council, County Councillor Peter Fox, meets quarterly and shares information and addressess issues relating to all aspects of equality in Monmouthshire. Numerous organisations are represented including Gwent Police, South East Wales Racial Equality Council (SEWREC), Youth Offending Team, CAIR - the Monmouthshire Disablement Association and knowledge, ideas and information are shared with the aim of promoting equality of opportunity accrosss all seven strands.
In December 2001, a 'Racism sub group' was formed as part of Monmouthshire's Community Safety Partnership to address issues of racial harassment and attacks and progress good practice on racial equality, on a multi-agency basis. The Council works in partnership with Gwent Police, the Probation Service, the Crown Prosecution Service and the South East Wales Race Equality Council (among others) on this group. The name of the group was changed in April 2003 to give a more 'friendly' and positive name to the public about what the group does.
