The Disability Discrimination Act 2005 places a duty on all public sector bodies (including Monmouthshire County Council) to ensure that disabled people are treated equally and fairly. To do this, the Council had to produce a Disability Equality Scheme by 4 December 2006. The involvement of disabled people, disability groups, carers and those concerned with disability issues is vital in putting this Scheme together so that it really does make a difference to the services provided to disabled people in Monmouthshire.
We are very grateful for all the information and comments we received from disabled people, carers and organisations. The Council’s Cabinet considered the draft Scheme on Thursday 6th December and referred it to Council in January. Please contact us if you have any comments on the Scheme or would be interested in becoming involved in the Council’s work to achieve disability equality. Although the formal consultation period has now ended, we always welcome any feedback as we hope this document will evolve and improve.
