Monmouthshire’s Community Safety Team consists of seven officers that include a Community Safety Officer, an Administrative Assistant, and five officers dedicated to specific areas of work.
Key Areas: -
- Anti Social Behaviour
- Closed Circuit Television
- Communities Against Drugs
- Domestic Violence
With the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 placing a statutory duty on all local authorities to work in partnership to tackle the problems of crime and disorder that affects all our lives, Community Safety has been adopted as one of the policy aims of the council.
The team therefore works with other directorates within the Council and partner agencies to tackle Crime and Disorder in Monmouthshire and enhance Community Safety as outlined in a current 3 year strategy.
The strategy
Significant progress has been made in achieving the following four main aims of our strategy: -
- Reducing crime and the fear of crime.
- Promoting safety and reducing disorder and anti-social behaviour.
- Preventing and reducing the potential involvement of young people in crime and disorder.
- Tackling the problems of violence at home, at school, and in our streets and communities.
These aims have been met by using current legislative powers, and external funding from the Welsh Assembly Government.
