In May 2002 the Council agreed a new Constitution which sets out how it operates, how decisions are made and the procedures that are followed to ensure that these are efficient, transparent and accountable to local people.

The Executive or Cabinet is now responsible for making most of the major decisions.   The Cabinet, which meets monthly, takes decisions about local services in line with the overall budget and policy framework set by the Council.
