Year on year improvement for Social Services

A recent report of Monmouthshire County Council’s Social Services Department shows another improvement on the previous year.

The Care and Social Services Inspectorate for Wales (CSSIW), which reviews all 22 social services departments praised Monmouthshire Social Services and said that they have “many good features”.

The main findings of the review were:

  • Children’s services provide good services are well placed to show sustained improvement
  • A good performance for sustaining adults in the community
  • Good partnership with the Local Health Board
  • An improved management structure
Good staff retention, an open culture and good staff morale

This is excellent news for Monmouthshire County Council when, nationally, all social services departments are suffering from budget restraints and cuts.  This is particularly relevant to Monmouthshire, who suffer with the worst budget settlement of all Welsh Local authorities because of the budget setting formulas.

Cabinet member for social services, Councillor Brian Hood said of the review findings “I am very pleased with the findings of the CSSIW.  This confirms that Monmouthshire Social Services, through its staff, provide an excellent service and are in a good position to continue doing so.”
Ends.
