Best year ever for ‘A’ level results for Monmouthshire students
‘A’ level results for students in Monmouthshire schools published today were outstanding. 98.9% of all students taking the WJEC examination passed with grades A-E, comfortably surpassing the Welsh average of 97.1%.
Particularly pleasing was the performance at the top A grade where 30.9% of all Monmouthshire entries achieved this top pass compared with 24.1% nationally.
Performance improved at all levels within Monmouthshire schools, including an improvement of A-C passes (from 82.4% to 83.2%) and an especially pleasing increase in the pass rate of ‘AS’ level from 92.6% to 93.1%.
County Councillor Peter Fox, Cabinet Member for Lifelong Learning and Leisure and Lead Member for children and young people, said:
“Once again I am delighted with the results achieved by our students and I wish them well for the future.
The continuing improvement at ‘A’ level is something of which all involved, students, parents and teachers, can be truly proud”.
Corporate Director, Andrew Keep, added:
“For performance at ‘A’ level to improve still further on the excellent performance of 2006 is a fantastic achievement. ’A’ level grades have never been better within Monmouthshire. Particularly pleasing to me is that within the context of an increased number of entries, we outperformed the Welsh average at the top A grade by nearly 7%”.
